Ryu Imai, a modern day troubadour
With his sweet countenance and unique voice, Imai captivates our guests - particularly the female ones - each night. His wide repertoire includes everything from traditional Japanese enka music to contemporary pop tunes, and his original "Katayamazu March" is always a crowd pleaser.
According to local legend, the sound of the goddess Benten playing her biwa (a Japanese lute) transformed a fearsome serpent that lived in Shibayama-gata Lagoon into the Dragon God. In olden days, this type of legend would be passed on from generation to generation by "biwa priests" - blind, lute-playing priests who were Japan's version of the troubadour. Imai's instrument of choice may be a guitar rather than a biwa, but like a modern-day troubadour he is continuing the tradition of transfixing audiences with his music.
